John Martin “Laughter Lines”
Meet The Artist, John Martin
I'm originally from Stroudsburg, PA. For the past 5 years I've been living and making art here in Phoenixville, right under your nose. I don't have a formal art education; I studied theatre in college and I've always been a creator. I'm inspired by the absurd, the chaotic, the funny, and the things that make no sense, but continue to somehow exist anyway. My work often incorporates mismatched elements, themes, or ideas in a way will hopefully elicit at least a light exhale through the nose, if not a full-on chortle.

Artist Statement: Laughter Lines
My drawings are done in pen & ink, incorporated sometimes with other mediums, such as
watercolor, pastels, acrylic paint, alcohol markers, among many other tools that I'm still discovering.
Most of my drawings start with a component of an idea, and then I think of a way to make it
more fun for myself, which usually adds an additional thematic layer. I've been influenced (read:
corrupted) by too much TV as a kid, science fiction, fantasy, rock & roll, and a strong belief that
laughter is one of the most important elements of the human experience. Art can (and should) bring
up so many emotions in people, and I've found that it's humor that I enjoy sharing the most.
Confusion's pretty good, too.
