JoAnn “Art Is Happiness”

Meet The Artist,

J

oAnn Moy

An award-winning artist, painter JoAnn Moy is a resident at Spring City Mill Studios, an old mill building in Spring City, PA and home to about 20 other artists. After graduating from Drexel University’s College of Design Arts in 1995, JoAnn spent many years as a graphic designer and eventually started painting full-time in 2020. Always having been captivated by the brilliant colors of the sky, JoAnn’s loose style has led her to explore the abstract world. She has exhibited her work in a number of solo and group shows throughout the Philadelphia region and now across the country. Most recently she won an award for her submission in the Pottstown Area Artists Guild Juried Fine Art Show at Schwenkfelder Library. In addition to her show at Art Work Gallery + Meeting Space in Phoenixville, PA, her work will also be included at the Nicolaysen Museum of Art Silent Art Auction in Casper, WY this September. November will find JoAnn welcoming visitors and collectors alike to the Open House in the mill as well as exhibiting at the Jeffersonville Golf Club through the West Norriton Arts Commission. In the new year, Muse Artisan Boutique and Gallery in Glenmoore, PA will host JoAnn’s early work.

Artist Statement: Art Is Happiness

It is through making art that I’m able to find my sense of direction, my sense of self, my sense of joy really. I’ve learned that releasing emotion through painting gives me a peacefulness I can’t find anywhere else. A generous size canvas gives me the freedom to paint from my shoulder rather than my wrist. My loose style allows me to paint from my soul rather than a predetermined idea. As I work the painting grows into something more, something alive, and it is part of me.
